ABOUT PENDOSOFT

Your partner online

or the chosen one to salvage your social network
What are the chances for a small business to hire the best developers in the world? Well let's be honest, they aren't big. But in this internet age it is possible to find them and work with them on a project basis. That's what we realized back when we founded Pendosoft. We have worked with a large number of developers and designers over the years, and we now have a wide network of partners, from all over the world, each an expert in their own area.

In 2004, I was the CTO and developer of a site called aSmallWorld. We were a startup and grew fast. In a few months we got 300 new members per day. Many of them were very active.

I wasn't prepared for the growth, and as I was also handling product development and support it wasn't easy finding time to get it all done. Each time I faced new challenges I googled to find the solution. It worked out fine until one day I just couldn't solve a specific problem, to implement what is called "shortest path" into out social network.

I spent two full days without any result. All I could find was another person who had the same problem. He had posted a project on a freelancing site, but that of course didn't help me. Finally I gave up. Before going to bed, I figured I had nothing to lose to also test a freelance site. I had no idea what to expect or what it would cost. I posted the project and went to bed.

When I woke up I had 11 bids. A guy from Ukraine solved the problem in two weeks time and implemented it on our site. I paid 150 dollars. I was amazed.

Within a month's time, we hired a full time developer that doubled the development speed costing us a mere 15% of what it had cost to hire a Swedish developer.
Outsourcing is far from simple, though. It doesn't always get a fairy tale ending. Sometimes you just don't get the job done, and sometimes quality has been far from acceptable. We have learnt are lesson the hard way.

We most often work with the same people over and over again, as the process of finding a new person is always time-consuming. But there are occassions when we need new expertise and we now have a sophistacted process of identifying highly-qualified developers at a reasonable price.

There are over 25 billion web sites as of today. Chances are big someone has already done what you want to do. It is easy to imagine the time and money that can be saved, if you can find a developer that has already created something similar to what you want done. We search these developers to get them to modify existing code, rather than start from scratch, when possible.
